How to choose the perfect tap? Interior designer Droika gives advice
Choosing taps for your bathroom was very simple in the past. You chose chrome or stainless steel, that was simply all there was. Meanwhile, you can find taps in all kinds of designs and colors such as black, bronze and gold. This gives you numerous possibilities to create exactly the atmosphere you are looking for, but it also makes choices more difficult. Interior designer Droika Engelen gives some tips!
Choosing the perfect tap: a guide for every bathroom
I am Droika Engelen, passionate interior designer and mom of Oona (3yrs). We recently built our own family home in Schoten, where I was able to use all my creativity and experience.
Choosing the right tap for your bathroom may seem like a simple task, but it can quickly become overwhelming given the wide range available. From my experience as an interior designer, I want to share some tips and insights to help you make the perfect choice. Here are some steps and considerations to get you started:
1. Functional considerations
When choosing a tap, functionality is key. Ask yourself how you will use the tap and who will use it. If you have young children in the house, then a faucet may be more convenient because it allows you to precisely adjust the temperature and with the temperature limiter you can prevent scalding. You also have a choice between built-in and surface-mounted taps. An elegant round tap on your bathroom counter is a real eye-catcher and gives the bathroom a unique look. For those who like a sleek and minimalist look, a built-in tap is an excellent choice, although the installation must be done carefully.
4. Budget
Of course, your budget plays a big role. Fortunately, there are high-quality options available in different price ranges these days. Personally, I often work with Paffoni because of their excellent value for money. Their products offer a high-end look without you having to go deep into the pocket. Are you looking for something extra? Then I prefer AXOR. AXOR's special colors here are not significantly more expensive which is the case with other brands. In addition, Facq also offers some very nice house brands, which makes it even easier to find a beautiful tap within any budget.
5. Innovative features
Also consider whether you want to take advantage of modern technologies and innovative features. Think sensor taps that save water or taps with built-in water filters. For those looking for extra comfort and luxury, a Japanese toilet might be an interesting option. These toilets offer advanced features such as heated seats, integrated bidets and automatic flushing systems. These extras can improve the convenience and durability of your bathroom and create a true wellness feeling in your own home.
Home sweet home
In my own home, I chose a combination of black taps in the bathroom and kitchen. This choice contributed not only to interior unity, but also to a modern and luxurious look. However, the use of black faucets has also led to extra attention to maintenance, especially in a busy household with a young daughter. Despite these challenges, I am very satisfied with the visual impact and functionality of my choices.
2. Style and design
Of course, the style of your tap should match the rest of your bathroom interior. Taps act as the common thread throughout your home, creating a sense of unity and tranquility. Consider matching your taps with other elements such as your lighting and door handles. In my own bathroom, for example, I chose black taps, which provides a nice contrast to the warm, natural tones of walnut and microtopping. This combination creates a modern, yet homey atmosphere.
3. Material choice
The material of your tap not only affects aesthetics, but also durability and maintenance. Chrome and brushed stainless steel are the ultimate classics that are very timeless and relatively easy to maintain. But can it be a little more? In my latest interior design projects, I used bronze or brass taps. These materials give warmth and exude luxury. AXOR is my absolute favorite when it comes to special colors. The color palette of AXOR mixers, showers and accessories ranges from warm brushed bronze to modern brushed black chrome, and from a cool stainless steel look to a beautiful warm gold color. Thanks to these many colors and finishes, both brushed and polished, all individual interior design desires can be realized. My favorite colors used in two projects are Brushed Black Chrome and Brushed Bronze. The black is less harsh than classic matte black and also gives a nice patina, while the bronze has a subtle warm champagne-like color rather than brown bronze.
What I love about AXOR is that even the smallest accessories such as towel hangers, toilet brushes or soap bars are available in the same special colors. So you really create an overall concept that is perfectly matched. Matching these details creates a harmonious and luxurious look in your bathroom, contributing to a feeling of unity and tranquility.
Conclusion
Choosing the right taps for your bathroom requires some consideration and planning, but with the right approach, you will make a choice that meets your needs both functionally and aesthetically. By considering functionality, style, material, budget and innovative features, and by working with professionals, you will achieve a beautiful and practical addition to your bathroom.
