The 7 biggest trends in 2024 for your bathroom

Bathrooms are following 7 trends in 2024. We look at them in detail below, as they could serve as inspiration to design or renovate your own bathroom.

The 7 biggest trends in 2024 for your bathroom

After exploring our suppliers’ latest innovations, we noted seven in-demand trends for bathrooms in 2024. Some trends are making a comeback, after falling out of favour. Others are fast emerging as people strive to bring new life, cheerfulness and a natural ambience to their bathroom. A third group of trends appears to build on the aspirations we observed among some designers, or even to take these ambitions to a higher level. Read on to learn more about these trends, which could perhaps serve as a source of great inspiration when you design or renovate your own bathroom.

1. Organic shapes

Last year already, we could see the growing popularity of organic shapes in the mirror collections used to decorate modern bathrooms. In 2024, this distinctive design has become a top trend. It can also be found influencing the creation of bathtubs, countertop basins or lighting, accessories and the decoration of this room set aside for well-being.

Yet it should come as no surprise that designers use this kind of shape for bathrooms. If you look at the meaning of ‘organic’, you will discover that the term is associated with living things. So organic is linked to nature and water – which is one of nature’s elements – is vital for every bathroom. Water will also flow more easily and gently in a curved bathtub or washbasin.

Objects with shapes that mimic nature – where straight lines are rare – are also easy on the eye and are nice to touch. The fluidity and asymmetry of such objects will also enhance the ambience of your interior and bring a feeling of relaxation and fun.

2. Chrome’s big return

In recent years, if someone had told you that the trendiest taps had a black, gold, or a brushed finish, it’s likely you would not have been that surprised. Especially if you were looking for a bathroom with a streamlined and sophisticated style. But 2024 is very different. Because the big trend now is the colour silver as well as chrome – a typical material in bathrooms.

Silver and chrome finishes were very much in vogue in the 70s. They are ideal not only for their functional, modern look, but also because they blend in beautifully with all types of bathroom furniture and decor. Their shine adds a hint of glamour to the room, without being too flashy. Best of all, chrome is very easy to maintain. It’s also resistant to wear and tear, corrosion, knocks and scratches, and is extremely durable.

But perhaps you find chrome taps a little too ordinary. If so, you could opt for champagne-coloured or copper-coloured taps, which will also be on trend in 2024.

3. Tone on tone

Also popular in bathrooms in 2024 is monochrome decoration, sometimes known as ‘tone on tone’. With this method, you can create and infuse touches of colour while keeping a harmonious and relaxing design. Bathroom decor specialists say that tone on tone is much like minimalism and cocooning.

It’s very easy to use this principle. Just choose a main colour and, to avoid any monotony, you should make use of various shades of that colour on each item in your bathroom, including furniture, equipment and accessories.

The question is, what colour should I select? We recommend avoiding bright colours – such as red or orange – or very dark ones like black, as you could quickly grow tired of them. You can achieve a more attractive and longer lasting result by choosing colours that are fairly light and/or warm, i.e. terracotta, green or beige.

In the range of beiges, we suggest the colour nude, which is viewed as an infallible choice when following the tone-on-tone trend. The colour of naked skin, it symbolises sensuality and softness. It covers the whole colour palette, from off-white and chestnut to numerous shades of pink.

4. A home spa

Comfort plays an increasingly central role in our homes, and above all in the bathroom. After a long day at work, what could be more natural than to wish to relax and unwind in a calm and refined space that recalls a wellness centre? In 2024, the trend is very much to recreate this unique feeling of comfort and to offer a sensual experience for all our senses.

Start by installing a large walk-in shower, fitted with an overhead shower offering several types of jets, depending on what you want and what your body needs right now. Do you like to take a bath from time to time and have enough space in your bathroom to fit a bathtub? Fit it with a balneotherapy system, to enjoy all the benefits of a spa at home. For the vanity unit, you’ll find it even more comfortable to use with two washbasins or countertop basins.

If you want to feel like you’re in a room completely focused on your well-being, make sure there is nothing lying around. All your bathroom products and appliances should be neatly stored in spacious furniture. Finally, by choosing neutral colours and earthy tones, using natural materials and warm woods, you can complete the decor and create a truly personal space.

5. Bright colours

In 2024, besides soft and monochrome shades, our bathrooms are home to bright and beautiful colours. The world around us is hectic, time is flying by and our agendas are increasingly full. So it may come as no surprise that (touches of) colour, especially in bolder hues, is making a comeback in our busy lives. Feel free to embrace this trend and bring some positivity to your bathroom. Explore vibrant colour combinations that are lively, sparkling and shimmering. In short, colours that exude joie de vivre.

You can even have some fun by making use of the ‘colour block’ technique. This involves working with blocks of colours in bright shades to create a style that attractive, original and striking: for example, use blue for the walls, the tiling in the shower and accessories, plus orange for the equipment and furniture. Or you could try the golden light of mustard yellow combined with the elegance of duck green. Don’t worry about running out of possibilities. Nowadays, everything for a bathroom is available in bright and shiny colours, ranging from the furniture to the toilets, and from the radiator to the washbasin.

6. Grooves, ridges and textures

Until recently, the question of whether to choose a product with or without grooves (or ridges, if you prefer) only arose in the potato crisps aisle of your supermarket. But now grooves are also relevant when considering the style of your bathroom fittings.

The trend for grooves in the materials used for the fronts of bathroom furniture was already apparent last year, particularly in those under the washbasin or washbowl. But in 2024, grooved and ridged surfaces can be found in many other ranges. These include shower panels, radiators and even toilet bowls!

These grooves – whether thin or wider, horizontal or vertical – add depth and texture to the various surfaces, which are often harmoniously designed in a pretty palette of soft, neutral shades. Here the aim is to avoid overpowering the general effect. The resulting look adds movement and vitality, not to mention character and elegance, to your bathroom.

It should be noted that fashionable grooves can also be found on wood (whether solid or not), on mineral materials and on the outer shell of a toilet bowl.

7. Sustainable, handmade and crafted materials

The last trend for 2024, but not the least, is a penchant for imperfect structures and textures. This is a sign of refined craftsmanship. Here, sleek perfection is replaced by elegant, luxurious authenticity and an unconventional style. So your bathroom becomes a warm and welcoming space, going beyond decor alone.

This trend is most obvious in the bathroom fittings, including the furniture, bathtub, washbowl or washbasin. These can call on textured solid wood, cut natural stone, rough concrete or ceramic finishes. In addition, the entire bathroom decor will evoke authenticity and craftsmanship. The walls can be covered with limewash paint, the panels of the walk-in shower with a traditional mosaic, the floor with a woollen rug, and towels (on the towel holders) should be made of linen in beautiful, refined and eco-friendly materials like linen, organic cotton with a honeycomb effect, etc.

To complete this back-to-basics approach, you can add old objects, whether handed down from generation to generation or acquired randomly during holidays. For instance, a stool or wooden ladder for your towels, a pretty mirror with a gold frame, or a small wicker basket to hold your beauty products. Be inspired by nature and add green touches with indoor plants: these will clean the air of your bathroom, which is naturally humid.
